Eager Readers Book Club

9 - 11 years old

A little info about this class...

Read and explore some wonderful books with a friendly group of Home Ed students. Be ready to be inspired and to inspire!

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.” — Dr. Seuss

Eager Readers is a weekly Book Club aimed at children between 9 to 11 years old, however keen readers of all ages are welcome. Every week, we will discuss a selected book with others who love reading. Each book will last between 8-10 sessions.

If you have not tried a book club yet, the start of a new book is a great place to start. Each week we will have fun exploring specific themes before breaking off into small groups to talk about the books in more detail. We can even do some drama activities based on our reading. Reading aloud and drama tasks will always be optional, so you do not have to participate in these activities if you don’t want to. You will need to read the required chapters before each session, so you have plenty of ideas to share!

The current book is The Girl of Ink and Stars. The next book is The Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell starting on April 17th.

Please note, that all our books are chosen to be age-appropriate but also to ensure interesting and stimulating discussion! It is the parent or carer’s responsibility to ensure they are happy with their child reading the chosen book.

For safeguarding purposes, each Zoom lesson includes a brief registration at the beginning which requires children to have their webcam switched on. If your child would like to join lessons but is anxious about this or needs to have their face covered during lessons for religious or any other reason please get in touch, and we can arrange an alternate method of registration for them.

Here's what we offer...

  • 1 x weekly live interactive lesson (term time and half terms)
  • Access to video link for 7 days after each lesson (not downloadable)
  • Access to members area to share child’s work and get teacher feedback
  • Optional additional learning activities between lessons
  • Weekly worksheets to print and use in the lesson
