A little info about this class...
Study for your IGCSE in English Literature following the Cambridge exam board curriculum with a group of like-minded home-ed students.
Unlike all our other courses, the price for IGCSE is £5.00 +VAT a week per student to reflect the amount of work the teacher will need to do to successfully guide you through your IGCSE. All marking and feedback is included in the price. You will be expected to do 1 – 2 hours of independent work each week.
For safeguarding purposes, each Zoom lesson includes a brief registration at the beginning which requires children to have their webcam switched on. If your child would like to join lessons but is anxious about this or needs to have their face covered during lessons for religious or any other reason please get in touch, and we can arrange an alternate method of registration for them.
Follow the Cambridge IGCSE English Literature course in this class which is suitable for students aged 14-16. In these weekly sessions, we will read and discuss a selection of short stories, poems, and a play. You will learn how to understand literature, as well as how to write about it. It is an advantage if you are a fluent reader. Each week we will explore specific themes before breaking off into small groups to discuss and debate what we have read. Reading aloud will always be optional, so you do not have to do so if you don’t want to. You will need to read the required chapters before each session, so you have plenty of ideas to share!
Due to some of its themes and content of this course, the age for this class is 14 – 16. If your child is younger than 14 but you would like them to study this course, please make sure that you are aware of the content and either watch the recordings before your child watches them or watch the lessons with your child to ensure that you are happy with the content and can talk it through with your child.
The full content for IGCSE English Literature (Cambridge) is covered in 12 months. Please be aware that all our GCSE and IGCSE courses offer a rolling curriculum and cater for children with a wide range of abilities, previous knowledge/study and willingness to work independently. Although we cover the curriculum in the period stated, it is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that your child has covered and understood the entire syllabus, kept appropriate notes and has carried out exam practice before they sit their exam. Our teacher will give short exam practice throughout the course and teach the children how to answer the questions, but it is a good idea for your child to sit practice exam papers in the run-up to their actual exam. Our teachers are always happy to help and advise but please make sure you know what your child has studied and areas that need more work before they are ready to sit the exam. Generally speaking, our recommendation is to start around April /May for May/June exams one year later or September / October for November exams one year later. To find out more please read Taking GCSEs/IGCSEs with LLP.
To prepare for the exams, children will be required to practise writing essays about the short stories, the play and the poetry. This will be monitored by your teacher and you will receive feedback after each. Of course, you may also complete the course without taking the final examination, if you wish to.
